Detox and Wellness
Why Detox?
It’s a beautiful time to be alive. We have incredible technology and access to all different kinds of foods and medical care. Unfortunately, we also have never had so many pollutants, chemicals, micro plastics, GMO’s and MEF’s (Electromagnetic Fields) in our environment, our food, our cleaning products and cosmetics.
Although our bodies have natural ways to detox, what most people don’t realize is that many toxins and contaminants can accumulate over time, exhausting our organs’ natural processes. As a result, we may feel sluggish, get headaches, have difficulty digesting food, struggle losing weight, and our immune system may become compromised. Just like we do our best to make sure our cars are lubed, oiled, and filtered every year, we need to do the same for our bodies. Every person can benefit from doing some sort of detoxification in their life.
Types of Detoxification Offered at Utah Body and Soul
Lymphatic Massage: a gentle, light pressure procedure that helps drain the superficial lymphatic pathways. It encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. A sufficient lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the tissues. This is done superficially and helps the skin (our biggest organ) to detoxify too. This procedure can also be done before and after surgery to increase healing time.
Ionic Foot Bathing: is done while the feet are soaking in non-iodized sea salt and water mixture with an ionic coil that separates the feet. The ions in the water hold a charge that enables them to bind to any heavy metals and toxins in the body, similar to how a magnet works. This is great for anyone that is on their feet a lot. Toxins like to follow the flow of gravity.
Infrared Sauna: the far infrared wavelengths are beneficial in penetrating the skin to increase circulation that help the body remove harmful toxins and move lactic acid. The heat pumps blood, increases circulation, makes your heart work harder, increases metabolism and burns calories. This sauna is pre-programmed for detoxification, inflammation and immune boosting. You can also choose light therapy while inside the sauna to increase the effects and boost your mood.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber: the body and the concentration of oxygen under pressure actually aids the body in the elimination of excess fluids and swelling. It also helps with the release of inflammation, harmful chemicals, and toxins.
Cleansing and Wellness
Cleansing and detoxing are two peas in a pod. While detoxing tends to mean a type of treatment, cleansing is a simple as changing what we put into our bodies with our diets. Cleansing can mean many different things to different people. Just something as easy as cutting out sugar for 7 days or deciding on one type of category to cut out such as dairy or gluten can be very beneficial. It all depends on you and understanding what is best for your body.
A great way to know what is best for your body is to schedule a wellness consulting appointment with a professional. These appointments allow you and the professional to brainstorm what exactly will work for you as an individual. While most of us are knowledgeable and have access to a lot of information it can get overwhelming to know what is right and best for our bodies.
At Utah Body and Soul, our wellness consultant can help you put together a realistic program with simple goals that are achievable. She will even go shopping with you to help with you find your first recipes to try.
Seasons for Detox and Cleansing
In Chinese medicine, each season focuses on different parts of the body. By combining this practice to detox and cleansing, we’re able to make sure each area of our body is as healthy as possible, while also following the natural change of seasons.
Spring and Summer is a time for renewal. It’s lighter and warmer and we want to awaken and revive our liver. We want bright, lighter food, juice and more raw things. Spring is also a time to focus on detoxing our bodies from the toxins that built up over the colder months. Visit this website for more details about Spring
Fall and Winter is a time to focus on boosting the immune system. We can’t eat the same as we did during the warmer months. Raw foods are too cold for our spleen and kidneys. Colder raw foods tax our organs and compromise our immune system. As the weather cools, we should start introducing warmer more grounding foods like squash and herbs like cinnamon and cardamom. This is also a time to focus on strengthening our lungs. Visit this website for more details about Fall.
