This minimally invasive procedure that removes the outer layers of the skin in a safe and controlled manner, improves skin quality by softening fine lines, reducing sun damage and age spots, as well as minimizing superficial and acne scarring.

What is Microdermabrasion and is it right for you?

Age, sun, diet and environment are just a few of the factors that lead to the skins deterioration on the face, neck, chest, hands and other part of the body. In a society based on looking and feeling younger, we are always trying to find the most effective and quickest ways to fix these problems.

What is microdermabrasion? How does it work? And what effect and benefits will this procedure have on your face and other parts of your body?

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and dermis. The epidermis is the outer most layer. It is comprised of several dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The top layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers.

When microdermabrasion is being performed it is removing or breaking up the stratum corneum. Our body acts as though this is a mild injury and will rush to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. Thus, the skin’s surface is greatly improved. As the skin heals new skin cells are formed resulting in a much smoother and softer looking appearance. Sometimes a mild redness or pinkness can occur immediately following this procedure. This can last an hour to a few days after a treatment but in most cases resolves itself immediately.

Microdermabrasion is effective in reducing fine lines, acne and other superficial scarring as well as fading age spots and pigmentation. However, one treatment will prove to be very beneficial but several treatments (3-6) over a close period of time depending on condition being treatment (1-4 weeks apart), prove to be highly effective with more visible longer lasting results.

The handpiece used to perform the microdermabrasion procedure emits tiny aluminum oxide crystals onto the skins surface causing a very mild sanding of the skin, while at the same time vacuuming up the used crystals as well as the dead skin that is being exfoliated. There are virtually no side effects to this procedure and normal activities can be resumed immediately following this procedure.
